Commissioning Engineer in Birmingham

We are seeking a Commissioning Engineer based in Birmingham to be part of our growing team.

| KEY RESPONSIBILITIES |

• Assist the Commissioning Manager with the day-to-day coordination and monitoring of M&E commissioning activities across the project, in line with programme, quality requirements and client expectations.
• Support the management and coordination of specialist commissioning subcontractors, helping to ensure activities are planned, resourced and progressed in accordance with the project scope and programme milestones.
• Attend commissioning, project and coordination meetings as required, providing accurate progress updates, action trackers, records and supporting information.
• Assist with the preparation, review and issue of commissioning reports, scopes of work, two-week lookaheads, progress updates and commissioning status information.
• Support the review of commissioning method statements, inspection and test plans, commissioning records and associated documentation, escalating comments and recommendations.
• Witness, record and report on site testing, commissioning and performance verification activities, ensuring findings, defects and outstanding actions are clearly communicated and tracked to closure.
• Assist with the coordination of ventilation balancing, water treatment activities, sampling and other commissioning-related site activities as required.
• Monitor and comment on the quality and readiness of M&E installations during the construction phase, identifying defects, non-conformances, incomplete works and risks that may affect commissioning or handover.
• Update commissioning programmes, trackers and progress records to reflect current site status, dependencies, constraints and outstanding actions.
• Provide practical site support to suit project and business needs, including installation checks, system readiness reviews and follow-up of commissioning-related actions.
• Assist in the collation, checking and issue of commissioning records, test sheets, certificates, reports and handover information in accordance with project and client requirements.
• Maintain professional and positive working relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, consultants, clients and the wider project team, while keeping the Commissioning Manager informed of progress, issues and risks.

| EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE |

• Industry recognised qualifications or apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent relevant site experience.
• Good understanding of quality and commissioning requirements within a construction environment.
• Experience supporting M&E installation, testing, commissioning and quality activities on construction projects.
• Knowledge of domestic and/or commercial building services systems and the commissioning sequence required for successful handover.
• Understanding of commissioning documentation, method statements, inspection and test plans.
• Ability to identify incomplete works, defects, commissioning constraints and site risks and escalate these appropriately.
• CSA Level 2 or above, or working towards a recognised commissioning qualification.
• SSSTS, SMSTS, CSCS/ECS or equivalent site safety certification where required by project role.
• Additional training in water treatment, ventilation balancing, BMS controls or building services commissioning.
• Previous experience as a Commissioning Engineer, Assistant Commissioning Manager, M&E Engineer or similar site-based role.
• Experience with ventilation balancing, water treatment, flushing, sampling, BMS interfaces, HVAC systems.
• Experience working with specialist commissioning subcontractors, consultants and client teams.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise professionally with site teams, subcontractors, consultants and client representatives.
• Organised and detail-focused, with the ability to maintain accurate records, trackers, reports and action lists.
• Good problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach to supporting commissioning delivery on site.
• Ability to work under the direction of the Commissioning Manager while managing allocated tasks independently and escalating issues when required.
• Positive team-working attitude, flexible approach and willingness to support wider project and business needs.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and support delivery against short-term programme deadlines.
• Confident reviewing technical drawings, commissioning documentation and installation quality against project requirements.
• Professional and assertive manners when dealing with internal and external enquiries.
