Performance Responsibilities
- Professional and Interpersonal Relations

- Develops rapport with coaching staff within the school
- Organizes coaching staff
- Develops positive relationships with participants, student body, faculty, parents, community, officials, news media, and opponents
- Employs appropriate conduct during practices and games
- Attends league, conference and WVSSAC meetings
- Participates in activities that foster growth and development
- Motivates staff and players toward desired goals
- Commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior and language
- Develops high caliber and quality instruction
- Teaches fundamental skills
- Handles athletic injuries
- Cares for equipment
- Supervises participants and disciplines team appropriately
- Designs quality organization of practice sessions
- Designs pre-season planning
- Supervises managers and other support personnel
- Manages budget

- Complete WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and take KCS Staff Development Training on Concussions
Other Requirements
- Non-Teaching Applicants must complete WVSSAC Training and Certification Program (Estimated Cost: $250.00)
- Apply for position(s) annually
- Submit to (upon initial assignment) Criminal Background Check (Estimated Cost: $47.25)
- Substance Screening Test
- Be eligible and apply for certification as Coach through the WV Department of Education (Estimated Cost: $35.00)
- Keep certification valid and current (Estimated Annual Cost: $35.00)
- Attend Kanawha County Schools' Orientation
Requirements for Certified Teachers
- New teachers that have been hired after July 1, 2012, who apply to coach on the secondary level (grades 6-12) must have completed the three hour training session provided by Kanawha County Schools and completed the Online Concussion Awareness Course through the KCS Staff Development Site
- Training courses will be taught throughout the year
- Cost of the course will be $15.00
- This requirement will allow new teachers hired after July 1, 2012 by Kanawha County Schools to be able to coach on the first day of practice of each specified sport identified
