We are on the hunt for a highly skilled and dependable Mechanic to join a close-knit, high-quality independent garage. As a Mechanic at this garage, you'll be hands-on across a wide range of work: servicing, diagnostics, cambelt changes, clutch and gearbox repair, and more. You'll be working primarily on Volkswagen Group vehicles (VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda), but you'll also get to service and repair other makes, so every day brings something different. You'll be supported by a friendly, experienced team, and you'll help maintain the high standards for which the business is known from using diagnostic tools to offering customers clear, honest advice about their vehicles.
The client is a reputable, family-run independent garage based in Radstock, Somerset. They specialise in VW Group vehicles (Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda), but they aren't limited to just those; they service a variety of makes. Since opening around 2009, our client has built strong relationships in the local area, offering not only top-tier mechanical expertise but also customer-focused services like vehicle collection, courtesy cars, and reliable diagnostics. Working Hours
Monday to Friday: 08:00 - 17:30
Key Duties
- Perform routine servicing and full vehicle inspections
- Carry out diagnostics using relevant tools and software
- Conduct MOT-preparation checks and advise on repairs
- Change timing belts (cambelts), clutches, and gearboxes as needed
- Perform vehicle maintenance (brakes, exhausts, tyres, air conditioning, etc.)
- Maintain clean, safe working practices in the workshop
- Record work in vehicle service history and documentation
Key Requirements
- Previous experience as a Mechanic / Vehicle Technician - ideally Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent
- MOT licence preferred (or experience preparing vehicles for MOT)
- Diagnostic skills, with familiarity of VAG group vehicles a plus
- Good communication skills - able to explain technical issues to non-technical customers
