We are currently working with a well-established and highly regarded immigration law practice seeking to appoint an experienced Asylum Solicitor to join their specialist team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a firm known for its expertise across asylum, human rights, personal, and business immigration matters, as well as its collaborative and inclusive working environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will manage a varied and complex caseload covering all aspects of asylum and protection work. This includes representing vulnerable clients and handling matters from initial instruction through to appeal and higher court proceedings. You will work closely with senior leadership and be given genuine responsibility, along with the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the department. Support is provided by an experienced team of legal administrators and support staff. The firm operates a modern, paperless case management system, making this role well-suited to candidates seeking flexible or remote working arrangements, with occasional office attendance.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a full caseload of asylum and immigration matters
- Handling cases involving unaccompanied minors, fresh claims, extensions, and appeals
- Preparing detailed legal representations and supporting documentation
- Representing clients at tribunal and liaising on higher court matters where required
- Ensuring compliance with Legal Aid requirements where applicable
- Building strong client relationships, particularly with vulnerable individuals
- Contributing to team objectives and supporting junior colleagues where appropriate
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) or equivalent experience
- Accredited to Senior Caseworker level under the Law Society’s IAAS scheme
- Strong experience in asylum and immigration law
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage a busy and complex caseload independently
- A genuine commitment to working with vulnerable clients
Desirable Experience
- Experience managing a full asylum caseload independently
- Background working under a Legal Aid Agency contract
- Experience representing clients in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber and higher courts
- Knowledge of judicial review applications and removal challenges
- Previous supervision experience or an interest in progressing into a supervisory role
