Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Family Solicitor to join a busy and supportive family law department, taking on a key supervisory position in line with Legal Aid Agency (LAA) requirements under the firm's Ministry of Justice (MOJ) Family Contract. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of public and private family law matters while also acting as or supporting the nominated LAA Supervisor, ensuring compliance with contract and quality standards. This role is ideal for an accredited family law professional looking to step into a leadership position within a well-established practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of family law matters including public law children work and private children proceedings
- Conduct care proceedings, child protection cases, and related court advocacy
- Handle divorce, financial remedy, and domestic abuse matters where required
- Act as (or support) the designated LAA Supervisor under the MOJ Family Contract
- Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and contract standards
- Supervise junior fee earners and support staff where appropriate
- Maintain high standards of client care, particularly with vulnerable clients
- Prepare and represent clients in court hearings and directions appointments
- Support department development and contribute to business growth
- Work collaboratively within a busy, supportive family law team
Essential Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following LAA Supervisor criteria:
- Current membership of The Law Society Family Law Accreditation Scheme, or
- Current membership of The Law Society Children Panel Accreditation Scheme, or
- Current Part 1 (Core Assignment) of the Resolution Specialist Accreditation Scheme, or
- Full membership of the Resolution Specialist Accreditation Scheme
In addition, candidates should have:
- Qualified Solicitor (or Chartered Legal Executive) with significant family law experience
- Strong background in Legal Aid family work
- Experience of public law children matters (care proceedings essential for most roles)
- Ability to manage a busy caseload independently
- Strong advocacy skills
- Experience working with vulnerable clients
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience (preferred but not essential if accreditation is strong)
Desirable
- Previous experience as a nominated LAA Supervisor
- Children Panel membership
- Experience within a Legal Aid franchise firm
- Business development or team leadership experience
