We are working in partnership with a well-established and highly respected construction contractor to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven QS to join a stable, long-established business with over 50 years of industry experience, delivering a wide range of construction and civil engineering projects across Northern England and Southern Scotland.

The company has built a strong reputation for quality, safety, and consistent project delivery across sectors including housing developments, refurbishment, new builds, steel frame construction, education, retail, highways, water industry works, and design & build schemes.

The successful Quantity Surveyor will join a collaborative project delivery team, working closely with Contracts Managers, Engineers, procurement teams, and site staff to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high commercial standard. You will play a key role in cost management, contract administration, forecasting, and supporting overall project profitability. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to take ownership of varied projects within a supportive and well-structured commercial environment.

A Day in the Life:

  • Preparing detailed valuations, cost reports, and financial analysis
  • Monitoring project budgets and commercial performance
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, negotiations, and appointments
  • Identifying, pricing, and managing variations and change control
  • Preparing interim valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts
  • Supporting contract administration and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations
  • Working closely with operational and engineering teams to ensure accurate cost control
  • Producing regular commercial reporting and forecasts
  • Resolving commercial issues proactively to support project delivery
  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial management
  • Experience managing subcontractor packages and cost control
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and QS/commercial software
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent) preferred but not essential
  • Full UK driving licence advantageous
