The Role
We are seeking a hands-on Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in leading a busy, fresh-food kitchen. You will play a key role in maintaining high culinary standards, driving consistency, and contributing to menu development using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Ensure consistent preparation and presentation of all dishes
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness
- Lead and motivate the kitchen team during service
- Assist with menu development using seasonal and local produce
- Manage stock control, ordering, and waste reduction
- Ensure smooth service across lunch, dinner, and events
- Train, support and mentor junior kitchen staff
- Work closely with front-of-house to deliver a seamless guest experience
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years experience in a Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef or Chef de Partie role
- Strong experience working with fresh, seasonal ingredients
- Confident, hands-on approach in a busy kitchen environment
- Pastry knowledge is a strong advantage (but not essential)
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to maintain high standards under pressure
- Passion for locally sourced food and modern British cuisine
- Strong understanding of food safety and kitchen compliance
