We are working with a well-established, quality-driven law firm that has built a strong reputation for doing things properly for clients and for its people. They are now looking to add an experienced Family Solicitor (8+ PQE) to their team; someone who enjoys the technical side of family law just as much as the human side of it.
A key part of the position is establishing and developing a new office presence in the Scunthorpe area. This will suit an individual who is keen to network, build local referrer relationships, and drive business development, with the support of the wider firm (including operational and marketing support).
About the role
This role sits within a busy but well-structured family department handling a broad range of private family matters. You will be trusted to manage your own caseload end-to-end, with the autonomy to run files your way while having the backing of a collaborative senior team when needed.
The firm places real value on client care and clarity - no rushed advice, no conveyor-belt approach. For the right candidate, there is also scope to play a leading role in the development of the firm's presence in a new location, with operational and marketing support.
About the client
The firm is an established, multi-disciplinary practice with a strong reputation in private family work, particularly children and financial matters. They are known for combining traditional legal values with a modern, practical approach - clear advice, high standards, and genuine respect for both clients and staff.
Culture is important here. People stay because workloads are realistic, management is approachable, and good work is recognised. The environment is structured and supportive, with an emphasis on quality and professionalism, alongside commercially sensible case management.
Working hours: 34 days a week, 9:00am - 5:30pm (with flexibility by arrangement)
Key duties:
- Managing a varied private family law caseload from instruction through to conclusion
- Advising clients on matters including divorce/civil partnership dissolution, financial remedy and private children matters
- Advising on pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements and cohabitation disputes
- Handling TOLATA matters (typically up to letter before claim, with scope to transfer conduct internally thereafter where appropriate)
- Drafting a comprehensive range of legal documents (applications, statements, consent orders and correspondence) with accuracy and care
- Representing clients in court, at mediation, and in negotiations where required
- Maintaining excellent client relationships through clear, honest communication and strong client care
- Supporting business development activities (networking, referrers and local profile-building) and, where applicable, contributing to the launch/growth of a new office
Key requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with a current SRA practising certificate
- Minimum 3 years PQE (or equivalent experience) in private family law
- Proven experience handling children and financial remedy matters; broader private family experience (e.g. nuptial agreements, cohabitation/TOLATA) advantageous
- Confident managing a caseload independently, with strong advocacy/negotiation skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a professional, client-focused approach
- Commercial awareness, with a willingness to contribute to business development and practice growth
- Comfortable working in a structured but supportive environment, adhering to SRA Standards and Regulations
