As deckhand/relief skipper you will assist the skipper in all daily operations. The key function of the vessel is to complete the daily harvest and other operations on site. This includes ensuring good hygiene and maintenance of the vessel and the equipment aboard her. The harvesting operation rotates between Loch Melfort and Craignish, Argyll and Loch Pooltiel, Skye. After September 2026 the vessel will be based in Argyll. Accommodation is provided when on Skye.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in work vessels and aquaculture, with the potential to develop to a skipper. We offer an excellent financial package depending on experience, with a starting salary of £33,000, working Monday to Friday 8-5PM. Overtime is required during busy periods. Kames will provide training where required to train the deckhand to skipper the vessel.
Experience in the industry will be a real advantage to you. You will be key in supporting the site teams with all aspects of the daily on-site operations, to achieve the highest possible fish welfare. A full driving licence is essential. Candidates with vessel training and/or further education in aquaculture will be at an advantage.
