The Food and Beverage Product Designer is responsible for creating and improving food and beverage products, encompassing everything from initial concept to final client experience, ensuring quality, brand vision, and product integrity. They collaborate with internal teams and external partners to introduce new products to the market.

This role is for a down-to-earth and hands-on individual who is happy to tackle both small and large projects. Every day will be different, you will be on the ball with bags of energy and enthusiasm. Solutions-driven and practical, your administrative skills will be excellent, and your creative flair will be both innovative and on trend. You will be resourceful and have a strong understanding of up-and-coming trends across all industries.

Sustainability Strategy Development:
  • Develop and implement sustainability strategies that align with BCorp standards and company objectives, which are relevant to your role.
  • Regularly assess and report on environmental performance metrics within your department, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in sustainable practices within the catering operations.
  • Encourage staff to provide feedback and suggestions on how to enhance our environmental and social initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Concept and Creation: Develop new product ideas, including food and beverage formulations, packaging, and branding.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Conduct market research to identify consumer trends, competitor analysis, and potential opportunities for new products.
  • Testing and Evaluation: Design and conduct sensory tests to evaluate the taste, texture, appearance, and other qualities of new and existing products.
  • Product Formulation and Optimisation: Develop and refine recipes, formulations, and processing techniques to optimise product quality, shelf life, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Packaging Design: Collaborate with packaging designers to create appealing and functional packaging solutions.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, manufacturing, quality control, and sales, to ensure successful product development and launch.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and address any issues related to product quality, production, or consumer feedback.
  • Innovation and Improvement: Continuously seek ways to improve existing products and develop new and innovative food and beverage products.
  • Promote compliance with health and safety regulations and safe working practices in line with current legislation.
  • Represent Kalm Kitchen and its clients, promoting the company values to an external audience in support of growth.
Qualifications / Skills / Attributes:
  • Preferred Food Science or Related Degree: A degree in food science, food technology, nutrition, or a related field.
  • Product Development Knowledge: Understanding of product development processes.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Ability to identify and solve problems related to product quality and production.
  • Creativity and Innovation: Ability to think creatively and develop new product ideas.
  • Market Knowledge: Understanding of consumer trends and competitor analysis.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on product quality and highly organised.
  • Willing to be in a dynamic 'hands-on' work environment.
  • Communication and Collaboration Skills: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate findings to management.
  • At least 4 years in a similar role.
