An established UK manufacturer in bespoke thermoformed food packaging is seeking an experienced Senior Packaging / Product Designer to join its in-house design team. The business is known for delivering innovative, functional, and sustainable packaging solutions to major food brands. This is an excellent opportunity for a designer with strong technical capability and a passion for packaging innovation to work on products that reach real consumers.
Purpose of the role
You will play a key role in the end-to-end design of thermoformed packaging solutions, working closely with commercial, engineering, and production teams. Candidates with 3+ years' experience in thermoforming are ideal, though experience from other plastic packaging sectors will also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Design innovative thermoformed packaging solutions aligned to functional, aesthetic, and market requirements
- Create and modify CAD models using Autodesk Inventor
- Produce high-quality, photorealistic renderings using Keyshot for customer presentations
- Collaborate with Business Development to understand customer briefs and attend site visits where required
- Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles to ensure designs are production-ready
- Work closely with engineering teams through prototype development and validation
Key skillset
- Degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, or similar (or equivalent industry experience)
- Minimum 3 years' experience in packaging or product design
- Background in thermoforming preferred; other plastic manufacturing sectors considered
- Strong CAD capability (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
- Experience with Keyshot, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office
- Confident communicator with strong attention to technical detail
- Collaborative, adaptable, and open to feedback
