Strategy Trustee – Volunteer
We’re seeking a Strategy Trustee to steer Kainé through its next phase of growth, shaping our strategic direction as we scale our impact on community cohesion across Leicester.
Responsibilities
- Make informed decisions about where to focus time, energy and resources.
- Balance ambition with safeguarding, quality and sustainability.
- Stay accountable to our mission and the communities we serve.
- Translate vision into practical, measurable action.
- Provide leadership through the Strategy Committee to create conditions for long‑term stability, strong partnerships and meaningful impact for tens of thousands of Leicester residents.
- Chair the Strategy Committee and oversee the development and delivery of the strategic plan, tracking progress against agreed goals and ensuring alignment across programmes, partnerships, funding and operations.
- Work closely with fellow trustees and the senior team—particularly operations, finance, programmes and community engagement—to navigate key strategic questions such as sustainable growth, risk management, responding to Leicester’s evolving community needs and balancing innovation with organisational capacity.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience developing or overseeing organisational strategy, business planning or managing change in the charity, public or private sector.
- Comfortable working with complex information, identifying patterns and helping groups make sense of competing priorities.
- Experience with boards, committees or senior leadership teams is welcome but not essential.
- Strong collaboration, communication and leadership skills, with a preference for consensus‑driven approaches rather than authoritative command.
- Genuine commitment to Kainé’s mission and a keen interest in community cohesion in Leicester.
- Lived experience of Leicester’s communities or an understanding of working in super‑diverse cities is a strong asset.
About the Role
The Strategy Trustee will play a central role in guiding the organisation’s direction from a board‑level perspective. This is a hands‑on governance role suited to someone who enjoys shaping direction, asking the right questions and keeping the organisation focused while adapting to change.
