Recruitment are partnering with our client, a leading food manufacturing company, in their search for an Engineering Shift Team Leader.

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you will be a key member of the engineering team, responsible for leading the engineering shift team and ensuring the effective delivery of engineering support across the site.

4 on 4 off - 2 days (07:00-19:00) followed by 2 nights (19:00-07:00).

Purpose of the role

As the Engineering Shift Team Leader, you will be responsible for safely delivering engineering shift support across the site by leading the effective use of staff, contractors, communication, information, policies and procedures to maintain and continuously improve productive assets, departmental controls and site performance.

You will act as the shift point of contact for engineering, representing the Engineering Manager when they are not present on site.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage and lead the engineering shift team, ensuring resources are deployed to meet operational requirements.
  • Deliver planned and unplanned maintenance effectively through the use of CMMS and site resources.
  • Lead, coach, mentor and develop the engineering team to deliver a high-performing shift.
  • Ensure GMP, food safety, environmental controls and safe working practices are maintained.
  • Provide support and guidance on engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Use effective problem-solving techniques to identify and eliminate faults, abnormalities and inefficiencies.
  • Monitor engineering performance against KPI targets and ensure actions are followed through.
  • Maintain effective communication with departments and site management, escalating issues where required.
  • Manage team performance, including 1-2-1s, training, development, holidays and absence.
  • Promote a strong team culture and employee engagement.
  • Drive health and safety standards within the engineering team, including risk assessments and safe working practices.
  • Support continuous improvement and lean initiatives across the site.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, energy usage and environmental performance.
  • Ensure animal welfare standards are maintained at all times.

Experience

You will have an industry-recognised engineering qualification and experience within an electrical or multi-skilled electrical-biased environment, with a proven track record of delivering improvements.

You will ideally have

  • Previous experience supervising or managing an engineering team within an FMCG environment.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
  • Ability to diagnose and interpret circuit drawings.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick, accurate decisions.
