We are looking for an Asbestos Coordinator to join our team at Sellafield on a permanent basis. You will work within our Infrastructure Projects area to deliver Control of Asbestos that meets the requirements of the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012. You will be a valuable part of our team ensuring that asbestos containing materials are identified during the pre-construction stages and delivery stages including emergent issues. Once identified, you will then make arrangements for removal and/or control of the asbestos.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Engage with site teams to ensure they have a working understanding of the project scope.
  • Identify strategies to identify potential locations and interactions with asbestos materials based on the understanding of project scope.
  • Liaise with other SL Asbestos Coordinators in the search for information.
  • Attend / initiate stakeholder meetings.
  • Liaise and coordinate with the supply chain.
  • Support safe systems of work as the subject matter expert on the control of asbestos.
  • Arrange for an appropriate survey to be undertaken, agreeing the scope and delivery criteria for any proposed work liable to disturb presumed asbestos materials.
  • Ensure all Asbestos materials will be inspected on an annual basis, as a minimum.
  • Ensure that any work undertaken on Asbestos Licensable Materials will be carried out by an appropriate Asbestos Licensed Company.
  • Ensure that any work undertaken or Notifiable Non-licensed or Non-notifiable Non-Licensed Materials will be carried out by appropriately trained and competent personnel and for any work that may disturb Asbestos Materials a suitable Plan of Work should be implemented and recorded.
  • Complete appropriate notification to the Enforcing Authority for all Licensable or Notifiable Non-licensed Asbestos work.
  • Carry out an independent inspection for all Licensable work prior to (re)occupation of the area.
  • Develop arrangements to deal with Accidents, Incidents and Emergencies and ensure all Asbestos materials present in any building or construction site will be properly packaged, labelled, stored and transported.
  • Retain suitable records including: Asbestos Task Requests, Asbestos Management and/or Refurbishment Demolition Surveys, Asbestos Sampling Results, Records of Workplace Asbestos Inspections.

What You Will Bring

  • Demonstrable understanding of the following:
  • Experience of Asbestos in Soils and Brownfield Sites.
  • Legislation i.e. main duties to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises, purpose of asbestos surveys as detailed under HSG 264, knowledge of relevant publication relating to asbestos with emphasis on removing asbestos (licensed / un-licensed works).
  • Survey reports i.e. types of asbestos surveys, when to conduct asbestos refurbishment surveys, key information/components to identify within surveys to aid completion of Asbestos Management Plan.
  • Implementation of Asbestos Management Plans, knowledge of hierarchal approach to managing asbestos on site, assessment of long-term strategy for managing asbestos left in-situ, where personnel discover suspect ACM whilst working as the Asbestos Coordinator, necessary actions to take.
  • Removal of ACMs on plant and soils i.e. types & examples of planned licensed / unlicensed removal works, typical equipment used during works, PPE / RPE requirements, appropriate techniques to adopt during removal of ACM, control measures employed by contractors, disposal / decontamination measures.
  • Asbestos Management Procedures i.e. review of surveys requested, routine / non-routine inspections undertaken, review of asbestos management plans, completion of appropriately detailed Asbestos Task Request Forms, review of inspections carried out during licensed / non-licensed work, evidence of refurbishment surveys undertaken on plant for planned work that may disturb ACM.
