The Opportunity
We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Devonport on a permanent basis. This role will be working on a variety of contracts supporting our Industrial and Defence Business Units.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager and independent of the site operations team the QS will ensure good governance and project controls are maintained. You will work collaboratively with the Project Manager and site teams to verify progress, control expenditure, and ensure the company’s financial objectives are met whilst delivering a first-class service to the customer- you will be the customer’s day to day point of contact for all commercial matters on the contract.
This role will be based from our Plymouth depot and will require periodic attendance at customer sites throughout the UK.
How you will make an impact
- Site measurement of progressed works
- Accurate reporting of progress and contract position
- Maintaining accurate cost accruals
- Production of estimates and pricing work
- Preparation, submission and agreement of valuations
- Raising Invoices
- Maintaining accurate WIP accruals
- Managing Sub-Contractor accounts
- Timely capture and agreement of contract variations with customers
- Preparation of accurate Cost vs Revenue reports as part of the month end process
What you will bring
- Proven experience in Quantity Surveying, ideally within the Industrial or Defence sectors (preferred but not essential)
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline is desirable, though equivalent experience in a similar role will be considered
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail, to be able to analyse directly employed labour hours / pay
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the wider Microsoft suite
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients, contractors, and stakeholders at all levels
- The ability to manage subcontractor agreements
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a collaborative team environment
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- A customer-focused approach, with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
- Confidence in maintaining accurate commercial documentation and managing contractual responsibilities
- Strong understanding of contracts and confidence in conducting on-site measurements and assessing progress of works
