The Opportunity

We are looking for a Junior Project Manager to join our team at Devonport on a permanent basis.

In this role you will be accountable for providing professional leadership within Submarine Delivery programmes and ensuring the successful planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure of Submarine projects at Devonport Dockyard.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitator and owner across Submarine Platforms.
  • Responsibility for project objectives and strategies, work scope, risk management, overall work schedule, commercial plan, quality and safety requirements consistent with the terms of the respective contract and KAEFER procedures.
  • Maintaining close contact with respective client POC throughout the projects to ensure satisfactory reaction needs or challenges.
  • To scope all works required under the provisions of the project/contract to ensure maximum productivity is achieved and fit for purpose solutions are provided.
  • To support the business commercial targets for the focused projects.
  • Support the planning/scheduling function with resource requirements from individual projects to a cumulative requirement within the focused platform.
  • Liaise and support with the TA management teams regards suitably qualified operatives for discipline specific tasks and operations across the focused platform.
  • Liaise and support the Project Supervisors, with information collection, facilitation and recording.
  • Close liaison with Discipline Manager to ensure compliance with delivery to contractual obligations.
  • Where applicable, work with the Planning and Commercial teams to monitor project progress and recommend changes as required.
  • Ensure contract changes/compensation events are captured, ensuring that impact evaluation on costs and schedules is undertaken with the Commercial team.
  • Accountable for the continuous improvement initiatives that support service delivery to the client.
  • Accountable for ensuring that all employees are aware of the high safety standard that are required by KAEFER and the client with regards to working on site.
  • Accountable for leading and motivating multi-disciplinary, multi-skilled teams to maximise performance and efficiency.
  • Responsible for assisting the TA’s and Operation Managers with the planning, resources, and equipment requirements/allocation for remedial works after project closure.
  • Responsible for attending planning pre-start meetings, contributing to planning schedule.
  • Responsible for liaising with the Safety Department to ensure all incidents are investigated and reported back to the client.
  • Responsible for liaising with the TA’s to ensure they have sufficient and suitably qualified labour to achieve tasks outlined by the client.

Qualifications

  • Good level of Industry knowledge including Scaffolding, Blasting, Painting, Tiling and Composite services (desirable)
  • Knowledge of HSE and compliance regulations with Industrial Services
  • Knowledge of Warship & Submarine platforms and Devonport dockyard (desirable)
  • Experience in a Leadership and Management role
  • Experience in managing conflict
  • Experience of managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of performance management, including appraisal writing, staff development and disciplinary procedures
  • Experience of successfully developing and implementing projects
  • Experience of workforce planning, forecasting and development
  • Experience of working within industrial services or Marine sector (desirable)
  • ILM - Leadership and Management Certification (or equivalent) (desirable)
  • Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check and security clearance
  • Flexibility to work outside contracted hours
