The Thames Water Shared Apprenticeship Scheme are looking for a Quantity Surveying Apprentice in the Thames Valley region. This apprenticeship is part of The Thames Water Shared Apprenticeship Scheme and is a programme sponsored by Thames Water to address the skills gaps within their supply chain. The scheme features a compulsory industry rotation to enable apprentices to get experience in different environments and boost the chances of further employment in the sector.

Quantity Surveyors operate specialised equipment, ensure data accuracy, and perform cost assessments. Surveyors also process information, review tenders, and collaborate with other construction professionals. Strong technical skills and attention to detail are crucial for success in this role.

Duties typically include:

  • Take accurate financial information related to construction projects.
  • Control of costs during a construction project.
  • Producing take-offs for building plans.
  • Communicate with clients and colleagues to exchange financial construction-related information.
  • Understand and ensure legal and regulatory compliance is followed.
  • Administrate and analyse contracts, timesheets, tenders, pre-qualifying questionnaires, and price lists.
  • Perform cost assessments, measurements, or valuations using research-derived data.
  • Assist senior managers with the legal and contractual issues on a construction project.
  • Recording, control and reporting of income and expenditure on a construction project.

This role involves a combination of office-based work and visits to construction sites, including walking around active sites and travelling between locations. Typical Work Week: 40 hours p/w with start time typically between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

Person Specification:

  • A can-do attitude, willing to get stuck in, take accountability for decisions and actions, and who takes pride in their work.
  • A love of variety in a role and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment.
  • Ability to quickly prioritise tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem solving.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences.
  • Ability to travel freely across our patch to visit different sites and travel to training days.
  • Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions to serve our customers and protect the environment.
  • Able to understand and follow health and safety protocols.

Minimum Requirements:

  • English and Maths at GCSE Grade 3 or above, or Functional Skills at Level 1 or above.

Key Training/College Information:

K10 will enrol you to the Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider. The apprenticeship duration is 24 - 36 months with up to 6 months for your End Point Assessment (EPA).

Eligibility:

  • Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status.
  • Not enrolled on any other courses.
  • 18+ due to site H&S rules.
  • Full UK drivers license and access to own vehicle.
