Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technicians plan, install, service, commission and maintain all aspects of plumbing and heating systems. They can find themselves working inside or outside a property. Over the course of the apprenticeship, the learner will be trained to work independently and without immediate supervision in an efficient and safe manner. They can set out jobs from drawings and specifications and identify the necessary installation materials. Finally, they will be working towards industry standards and continuously showcasing positive health and safety practices.

Typical duties include:

  • Accurately measure, cut, bend, and connect metallic and plastic pipework;
  • 1st and 2nd fix plumbing systems;
  • Working on a range of equipment and appliances including water pumps, air conditioning units, thermostats, pressure relief valves;
  • Waste, soil stacks, and rainwater pipework;
  • Commissioning/decommissioning equipment and appliances.

This role involves regular manual handling of loads up to 25kg, working outdoors, and working on uneven terrain. K10 Apprenticeships will consider reasonable adjustments where possible to support individuals in carrying out the essential duties of the role. Typical Working Week: 40 hours per week with start time between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of 8 hours at college. You will be paid for the hours you're in college.

Qualifications required/desirable:

  • Minimum Requirements: English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 or above, or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above. You must have also completed a Level 2 Plumbing Studies Diploma.
  • Desired Requirements: The passion and commitment to become a fully qualified plumber. It will be advantageous if you already have previous related work experience and a CSCS/JIB Card.

Key Training/College Information: K10 will enrol you to the Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating course and fund your qualifications through an ESFA funded training provider. The apprenticeship duration is 48 months depending on your previous qualifications.

Eligibility: To start this apprenticeship, you'll need to be:

  • Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status;
  • Not enrolled on any other courses;
  • 18+ due to site health and safety rules;
  • Must live in the borough of Greenwich.
