The Thames Water Shared Apprenticeship Scheme is looking for a Health, Safety & Environment Apprentice in the West London - Guildford Area. This bespoke apprenticeship programme is sponsored by Thames Water to address the skills gaps within their supply chain. The scheme features a compulsory industry rotation to enable apprentices to gain experience in different environments and boost their chances of further employment in the sector.

The role will be both office and site-based, providing advice to others on how to work without harming themselves or others. Technicians will work with management and delivery teams to advise on the statutory health, safety and environmental requirements as they affect the company's operations. They will assist the management team in ensuring that the legal and company SHE requirements are implemented.

Duties may include:

  • Develop, review, and execute safe systems of work.
  • Create and deliver training packages (e.g., toolbox talks & inductions).
  • Investigate and report incidents in the workplace.
  • Analyse data and present findings to the management team.
  • Undertake site visits to construction sites to check on site safety standards.
  • Review and approve risk assessments and method statements.
  • Enforce health and safety requirements.
  • Identify hazards and implement solutions.
  • Planning emergency procedures.
  • Adhering to environmental and safety laws.
  • Implement health and safety standards such as ISO 45001 etc.

Typical Working Week: 40 hours p/w with start time typically between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

  • Proactive approach, taking pride in their work and accountability for decisions.
  • A love of variety in a role and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment.
  • Ability to quickly prioritise tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem solving.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences.
  • Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions to serve our customers and protect the environment.

Qualifications required/desirable:

  • English and Maths at GCSE Grade 3 / D or above, or Functional Skills at Level 1 or above.

Desired Requirements:

  • The passion and commitment to work in water treatment.
  • Previous related work experience and a SHEA Card is advantageous but not essential.

Key Training/College Information: K10 will enrol you in the Level 3 Safety, Health & Environment Technician course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider. The apprenticeship duration is 24 months.

To start this apprenticeship, you'll need to be:

  • Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status.
  • Not enrolled in any other courses.
  • 18+ due to site H&S rules.
  • Have a full UK Driving Licence and full access to your own vehicle.
