The Thames Water Shared Apprenticeship Scheme is looking for a Civil Engineering Apprentice in the Thames Valley (Reading / Oxford) Area. This bespoke apprenticeship programme is sponsored by Thames Water to address the skills gaps within their supply chain. The scheme features a compulsory industry rotation to enable apprentices to gain experience in different environments and boost the chances of further employment in the sector.

Civil engineers support the planning, design, building, management, maintenance, or dismantling of buildings, structures, and infrastructure. They will use and apply engineering principles and techniques, carry out calculations and data analysis, and prepare and produce sketches and diagrams.

Duties typically include:

  • Support civil engineering projects by creating and modifying engineering diagrams, documents, and specifications, following industry standards.
  • Assist in developing engineering solutions by collecting and analysing technical data and using digital tools like CAD/BIM/REVIT.
  • Prioritise safety by adhering to health and safety guidelines, identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies, including environmental and sustainability measures.
  • Manage project quality, budget, and targets using available systems while maintaining data security.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team, taking responsibility for tasks.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and ethical standards.
  • Continuously learn and develop skills in line with professional codes and industry standards.

Typical Working Week: 40 hours p/w with start time typically between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

  • Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions to serve our customers and protect the environment.
  • Able to understand and follow health and safety protocols.

Qualifications required/desirable:

  • English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 or above, or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above.

Desired Requirements:

  • It will be an advantage if you have some previous related work experience or completed a Level 2 Engineering qualification.

Key Training/College Information:

  • K10 will enrol you to the Level 3 Civil Engineering course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider.
  • The apprenticeship duration is 36 months with an additional 4 months for your End Point Assessment (EPA).

To start this apprenticeship, you’ll need to be:

  • Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status.
  • Not enrolled on any other courses.
  • 18+ due to site H&S rules.
  • Have a full UK Driving Licence and full access to your own vehicle.
