Job Description

The role of the network cable installer is to install, terminate, test and certify network cable infrastructure components in accordance with national and international industry standards.

This network infrastructure will provide the communications backbone for the digital infrastructure ecosystem, enabling all types of digital devices to communicate between each other, internally, nationally and globally. These include computers, servers, smart devices, security equipment, wireless access points, access control, building management systems and lighting systems.

Duties typically include:

  • Install cables to inter-connect communicating devices such as computers, scanners and printers to servers.
  • Interpret detailed project plans to construct and fix network equipment cabinets. Prepare cable pathways and install cable support and containment systems.
  • Install network equipment in cabinets, in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications including routers, switches, power over ethernet , internet of things , wi-fi, smart buildings and wide area network equipment.
  • Undertake performance-based testing and provision of certification to the customer. During the lifespan of the network, carry out maintenance where faults have occurred.
  • Exercise responsibility for the care and maintenance of a wide range of specialist tools, ensuring that equipment is serviceable and always in calibration.
  • Comply with cyber security principles for the maintenance of confidentiality, integrity and availability of data.

Typical Working Week

40 hours p/w with start time between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

  • Proactive approach, taking pride in their work and taking accountability for decisions.
  • A love of variety in a role and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment
  • Ability to quickly prioritise tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem solving
  • No two days are the same on the front line and not every day goes to plan, so you’ll need to be quick on your feet to respond!
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences
  • Ability to visit different sites and training days
  • Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions to serve our customers and protect the environment
  • Able to understand and follow health and safety protocols

Qualifications required/desirable

English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 / C or above, or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above.

Desired Requirements

An individual who is passion about IT and digital communication systems. Someone who would enjoy the installation and maintenance of hardware and software systems, whilst problem solving any issues across the project/business.

Key Training/College Information

K10 will enrol you to the Level 3 Network Cable Installer course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider.

The apprenticeship duration is 15 months.

To start this apprenticeship, you’ll need to be:

  • Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status
  • Not enrolled on any other courses
  • 18+ due to site H&S rules

You must reside in one of the following regions:

  • Hillingdon
  • Hounslow
  • Ealing
  • South Buckinghamshire
  • Elmbridge
  • Slough
  • Runnymede
