The Heathrow Shared Apprenticeship Scheme is one of the UKβs most exciting apprenticeship programmes. The scheme provides career changing opportunities for residents close to the airport.
The broad purpose of this occupation is to protect individuals and properties from risk and danger. This might mean installing Fire, Emergency and Security Systems to detect intrusion, provide surveillance, monitor and control access to buildings, properties and sites or to detect fire and emergencies. Technicians would use a wide range of systems using various communication technologies with electrical and electronic components.
- Planning, installation, testing, commissioning and handover of fire, or security systems equipment
- Carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance
- Fault diagnosis systems and their component
- Working in accordance with customer specification and industry regulations
- Work with designs, specifications and installation manuals
- Plan and complete first fix cable runs using the correct methods of containment and protection
- Isolate communication links to remote monitoring centres, testing links and reinstating
- Carry out programming and configuration of all fire or security systems and training users on the operations
- Complete the commissioning and handover procedure of a system

Typical Working Week: 40 hours per week with start time between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

Qualifications Required / Desirable:
- English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 / C or above, or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above.
- An individual passionate in fire and security systems with the ability to complete hands on installation work as well as system configurations and fault diagnosis.
- The individual should also be comfortable speaking to clients and working in different environments.
Key Training / College Information: K10 will enrol you to the Level 3 Fire Emergency and Security Systems Technician course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider. The apprenticeship duration is 36 months.
