Building Energy Management Systems are implemented in both residential and commercial buildings with mechanical, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) and electrical systems to enable energy efficient control of the internal environment. The BEMS Engineer is ultimately responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of various Energy Management systems in collaboration with the client and will have a good understanding of electrical systems and components.
Duties may include:
- Design and create BEMS Technical Documentation;
- Design and write software for control systems to an industry-approved standard;
- Design and create client-approved user interface for plant and systems;
- Adhere to Health & Safety documentation such as Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS);
- Off site manufacturing of components for installation on site such as building control panels (etc) off site to be installed;
- Install BEMS control equipment and wiring systems;
- Commission BEMS software and control equipment;
- Undertake servicing and maintenance of an existing BEMS installation;
- Carry out fault finding and rectification of defective control equipment or software algorithms;
- Conduct detailed conditional site survey reports along with remedial/enhancement recommendations;
- Create Operation and Maintenance documentation.
Typical Working Week: 40 hours p/w with start time typically between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.
Key Training/College Information: K10 will enrol you to the Level 4 BEMS (Building Energy Management Systems) Control Engineer course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider. The apprenticeship duration is 36 months.

- Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment;

- Able to understand and follow health and safety protocols.
To start this apprenticeship, you’ll need to be:
- Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status;
- Not enrolled on any other courses;
- 18+ due to site H&S rules;
- Have English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 / C or above, or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above.
