An established Birmingham steel stockholder is seeking a practical, organised and hands-on Warehouse Operations Supervisor. This is not a desk-only management position. We need someone who leads from the front, organises people and paperwork, solves practical problems and works alongside the warehouse team when required.

You will normally coordinate four or five warehouse employees and help ensure approximately 100–120 daily orders are prepared accurately and dispatched on time.

Main responsibilities
  • Process WooCommerce orders and print automated labels and order copies between 7am and 8am.
  • Check customer notes, exceptions and special instructions before releasing work.
  • Organise the daily workload so the warehouse team can begin promptly at 8am.
  • Allocate work and monitor progress throughout the day.
  • Coordinate approximately four or five warehouse employees at a time.
  • Receive stock and complete accurate stock-in records.
  • Maintain manual stock records while supporting the introduction of new stock-control software.
  • Prepare delivery notes and records for materials sent to galvanisers.
  • Inspect and reconcile galvanised items when they return.
  • Investigate missing, damaged or incorrect items.
  • Arrange deliveries using company vehicles and prepare practical delivery schedules.
  • Check that orders, paperwork and deliveries are complete and accurate.
  • Monitor productivity, quality and safe working.
  • Make routine decisions within agreed authority and refer complex matters to the business owner.
  • Undertake manual handling and practical warehouse work when required.
  • Provide a concise daily update covering completed orders, outstanding work and operational problems.
Essential requirements
  • Previous warehouse, stockholding, distribution or operations experience.
  • Experience supervising, coordinating or leading warehouse employees.
  • A valid forklift qualification and confident practical forklift experience.
  • Strong attention to stock, paperwork and order accuracy.
  • Able to plan work, set priorities and follow up delays respectfully.
  • Comfortable using computers and learning WooCommerce and stock software.
  • Willing and able to undertake the role’s practical duties, with reasonable adjustments where appropriate.
  • Practical leadership style with a calm, problem-solving approach.
  • Good understanding of warehouse health and safety.
  • Reliable and able to attend the workplace for a 7am start.
Desirable experience
  • Steel stockholding, metals, engineering materials or heavy industrial products.
  • Galvanising paperwork and inspection.
  • Delivery planning and coordinating company vehicles.
  • Stock-control or warehouse-management software.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Working arrangements
  • Full-time, permanent position.
  • Monday to Friday, 7am–5pm.
  • One hour of unpaid breaks each day.
  • 45 paid hours per week.
  • Fully on-site at Birmingham B18 7AD.
  • Salary of £34,000–£38,000 per year, depending on experience.
  • Start date as soon as possible.

We want someone who leads through practical involvement rather than simply giving instructions. The successful candidate will set clear priorities, support the warehouse team, maintain accurate records and take ownership of getting work completed safely, correctly and on time.

Applicants selected for the next stage will complete a short telephone screening followed by an in-person interview and a practical warehouse-planning exercise.
