We are recruiting for an experienced Payroll Advisor to join a growing accountancy practice within its expanding payroll team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong payroll background to manage a varied portfolio of clients and deliver accurate, timely and compliant payroll services. The role will involve working across weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls, supporting clients with payroll queries and ensuring all statutory submissions are completed correctly and on time.
The position would suit a detail-focused payroll professional with experience in a payroll bureau or busy in-house payroll department who enjoys client contact and working in a fast-paced accountancy environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of payroll clients across weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls
- Process end-to-end payrolls accurately and within agreed deadlines
- Handle complex payroll calculations, including tax, National Insurance, director NIC, student loans, pensions and deductions
- Upload payslips and payroll documentation to payroll software
- Prepare and review payroll reports, including variance analysis and audit trails
- Submit RTI reports and other statutory filings to HMRC
- Process pension contributions and manage auto-enrolment compliance
- Advise clients on PAYE liabilities, pension deductions, tax codes and employee benefits
- Process statutory payments including SSP, SMP and SPP
- Administer earnings arrestments and attachment of earnings orders
- Report recoverable statutory payments and Apprenticeship Levy to HMRC
- Prepare and submit monthly CIS returns and CIS suffered submissions
- Arrange salary and PAYE payments on behalf of clients where required
- Build strong, long-term relationships with clients
- Respond to payroll queries in a clear, professional and timely manner
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a payroll bureau or busy payroll department
- Experience managing multiple payrolls for different clients or business units
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- Knowledge of RTI, PAYE, auto-enrolment, statutory payments and CIS
- Confident completing manual payroll calculations
- Experience using cloud-based payroll systems
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas and data management
- Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines
- Clear and professional communication skills
- Ability to explain payroll matters to clients in an understandable way
