We’re recruiting for an ambitious VAT Manager to join a growing, specialist VAT/Indirect Tax team within a modern and forward-thinking accountancy and advisory firm. This is a key hire due to continued expansion of the VAT function and increasing client demand for high-quality advisory and compliance support.
You’ll work closely with senior leadership to deliver and develop firmwide VAT services across a varied client base including mid-market and large international businesses, education providers, public sector organisations, charities and other not-for-profit entities. The firm supports hybrid and flexible working and offers a clear route for progression for experienced VAT professionals looking to step into, or further establish themselves in, a management role.
This role can be based from multiple office locations and is well suited to an experienced VAT Executive/Assistant Manager/Manager seeking a new challenge.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of clients, overseeing VAT/indirect tax (and potentially customs) compliance and advisory work
- Provide VAT advice to UK and international clients, including the VAT implications of supply chains and cross-border activity
- Advise not-for-profit and education clients on VAT liability, VAT recovery, and partial exemption methods
- Support clients with land & property matters, including developments and transaction-related VAT considerations, liaising with external stakeholders (e.g., legal and property contacts) as appropriate
- Lead and coordinate complex assignments, bringing in specialist input where required
- Review work prepared by junior team members to ensure quality, accuracy, documentation, and risk management standards
- Respond to client queries, resolving technical issues and escalating to senior leadership when needed
- Identify VAT planning opportunities and communicate recommendations clearly to clients and internal stakeholders
- Monitor budgets, agree fees, prepare proposals, and manage fee recovery
- Build strong client relationships, managing expectations and delivering an excellent service experience
- Contribute to business development and sector activity, supporting growth across target markets
- Share VAT developments internally and externally (e.g., updates, insights, articles, and digital channels)
- Coach, support and develop junior colleagues through delegation, feedback, and regular check-ins
