We are recruiting for an experienced and detail-oriented R&D Tax Manager to join a well-established accountancy practice with a strong presence across the UK and Ireland. This is a remote-based role, supporting a varied portfolio of clients across Great Britain and working closely with senior tax professionals and junior team members.

The successful candidate will oversee the full R&D tax relief claim process, from initial client engagement through to final submission. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent report writing skills, and the confidence to manage client relationships, team workflows, and HMRC enquiries.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of R&D tax relief clients from inception through to review and submission
  • Oversee the full claims process, including information gathering, technical assessment, report preparation, and final submission
  • Organise team workflow to ensure jobs are completed efficiently and deadlines are met
  • Lead and support junior staff throughout the R&D claim process
  • Conduct client interviews alongside junior team members to ensure R&D criteria are fully understood and evidenced
  • Review R&D reports to ensure they are accurate, complete, technically robust, and of a high standard
  • Work with clients to improve their record-keeping processes and approach to R&D documentation
  • Deliver educational seminars and client presentations, either in person or via video call
  • Handle HMRC enquiries relating to R&D claims
  • Keep up to date with relevant R&D tax legislation, guidance, and case law
  • Support business development activity and identify opportunities to grow client relationships
  • Assist with the training, mentoring, and development of junior team members
Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience working within R&D tax relief
  • Strong understanding of HMRC R&D tax criteria, legislation, and relevant case law
  • Previous experience managing a portfolio of clients within an accountancy or tax advisory environment
  • Excellent report writing and technical documentation skills
  • Comfortable working in a client-facing role, including leading meetings and presentations
  • Experience managing staff, workloads, and deadlines
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to review technical reports and ensure high-quality standards are maintained
  • Confident handling HMRC enquiries and supporting clients through the process
  • Relevant tax, accountancy, or professional qualification desirable, such as ATT, CTA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent experience
