We are recruiting for an established accountancy and business advisory practice seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Agriculture and Landed Estates team in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounts professional to work with a varied portfolio of farming, rural business, agri-business and landed estate clients. The role will involve preparing accounts, tax computations and VAT returns, while also supporting clients with wider business advisory, tax planning and commercial decision-making. The position would suit someone with strong practice experience who enjoys building close client relationships and has an interest in the agricultural and rural business sector.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review annual accounts for farming, rural business and landed estate clients
- Prepare personal and company tax computations
- Review and prepare VAT returns
- Oversee client bookkeeping and ensure accounting records are accurate and up to date
- Prepare forecasts, projections and financial reports for clients
- Analyse income and expenditure to support business planning and decision-making
- Identify tax planning, financial and commercial advisory opportunities
- Support clients with business set-up, administration and compliance matters
- Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients by phone, email and written correspondence
- Assist with capital tax matters, including inheritance tax and capital gains tax exposure
- Work with sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and other business structures
- Attend client meetings and, where required, visit clients on-site
- Build strong relationships with agricultural and rural business clients
- Support junior team members with technical queries and work review where required
Requirements
- AAT, ACA or ACCA qualified, nearing qualification, or qualified by experience
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
- Strong knowledge of accounts preparation and tax compliance
- Experience working with a range of business entities, including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
- Experience working with agricultural, rural or landed estate clients would be advantageous
- Good understanding of VAT, personal tax and corporation tax compliance
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines effectively
- Confident communicating with clients, HMRC and colleagues
- Experience using accounts production and tax software
- Commercial awareness and ability to identify client advisory opportunities
