We are recruiting for an ambitious Accountancy Manager to join a growing accountancy and business advisory firm in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practice professional looking for a varied role combining client management, team leadership, advisory work and business development. The role will focus on supporting owner-managed businesses across the Midlands, delivering high-quality compliance and advisory services while helping to grow and develop a new regional office.

The position would suit a commercially minded manager who enjoys building client relationships, mentoring junior staff and contributing to the continued growth of a progressive accountancy practice.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of owner-managed business clients across a range of sectors.
  • Oversee the delivery of financial accounts, management accounts, VAT returns and corporate tax returns.
  • Provide business advisory support to clients, identifying opportunities to add value.
  • Review work prepared by junior and senior members of the accountancy team.
  • Ensure all compliance work is delivered accurately, efficiently and to agreed deadlines.
  • Support clients with digital cloud accounting systems and process improvements.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Work closely with partners and senior management to support client growth and retention.
  • Lead, coach and develop junior team members.
  • Assist with recruitment, training and team development.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce additional services to existing clients.
  • Support business development activity and build a local professional network.
  • Monitor developments in the accountancy marketplace to improve service delivery.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and success of the Birmingham office.
Requirements:
  • ACA or ACCA qualified, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working within an accountancy practice or business services environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation, management accounts, VAT and corporate tax compliance.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of owner-managed businesses and SME clients.
  • Confident reviewing work and managing deadlines across a team.
  • Strong people management, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to identify client opportunities.
  • Comfortable supporting business development and networking activity.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience with cloud accounting systems would be advantageous.
