Our client, a £100M+ turnover manufacturing business, is looking for a hands-on Windows Infrastructure Engineer to join an 8-strong IT team supporting around 350 users. This is a third-line role acting as number two to the IT Manager, with a clear path to grow into that position. For candidates wanting to build real technical depth and leadership experience, this is a structured progression opportunity, with training provided in the areas needed to grow into the role. Applicants from a Managed Service Provider (MSP) background are especially welcome, given the pace and breadth of environments that experience provides.
What You'll Be Working On
- Server migration upgrading the estate from Windows Server 2019 to Windows Server 2025
- Hypervisor refresh Hyper-V refresh with 3-node storage clustering, disaster recovery, and Veeam backup
- Manufacturing network reconfiguration migrating the production plant network off Windows Server 2016, with a full network security upgrade to Server 2025
- Endpoint management company-wide rollout of ManageEngine Endpoint Central across ~350 users
- Cyber Essentials working towards accreditation, including training and securing devices business-wide
- Thin client replacement rolling out IGEL (or similar) across the business
- Door access project rolling out a new physical access control system
- Conditional access & security developing the company's security posture, including a wider Microsoft Defender rollout
- ERP support supporting the ERP Manager through a major ERP implementation
- Server builds new application servers, including Linux builds for the production line
- Longer term contributing to the company's evolving cloud strategy as it grows
What's Required
Essential:
- Strong hands-on experience with Hyper-V and server build/deployment
- Windows 11 and Windows Server (2019-2025)
- Server virtualisation configuration and administration
- Implementing and supporting Microsoft 365
- Managing an enterprise backup solution (Veeam)
- Solid Active Directory and core Microsoft services Group Policy, DNS, DHCP
- Mobile Device Management (Intune)
- Endpoint protection (Microsoft Defender)
- LAN/WAN troubleshooting, including routing and switching
Desirable:
- HND/degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional qualifications
- MSP background
- Performance monitoring tools experience
- Apple iPhone/iPad device management
- VPN knowledge, ideally with SonicWALL
- Teams Telephony configuration
