The Role
JWF Group is looking for a Field Telemetry / Communications Engineer to join our growing Software and Data Team. You will work across both JWF Process Solutions and Stream Measurement customer sites, playing a central role in delivering high-quality installations and keeping our customers’ measurement and monitoring infrastructure fully operational. This is a field-based role requiring regular travel to customer sites nationwide. You will work both independently and as part of the wider software team, delivering clean, professional installations to a consistently high standard, ensuring every site is fully operational on handover.
What You'll Be Doing
Installation & Cabling
- Install and terminate structured cabling (Cat5e / Cat6, current signalling, Modbus, etc.) across industrial, commercial and utility sites
- Install and mount network equipment including switches, routers, gateways, antennas, access points and adapters/converters
- Support implementation and commissioning of instrumentation used for data acquisition (flow, pressure, thermal energy, level)
- Ensure all installations are neat, labelled and documented to a professional standard
Networking & Connectivity
- Configure and test network switches, routers and gateways
- Set up and verify connectivity at new and existing sites (Ethernet, Cellular, LPWAN, NBIoT)
- Support LoRaWAN / WM-Bus and similar telemetry systems
- Troubleshoot on-site network, connectivity and communication faults
Commissioning & Support
- Commission sites end-to-end, ensuring hardware and connectivity is fully tested before handover
- Liaise with site staff and managers during installation visits
- Escalate complex issues to the Lead Engineer or management as appropriate
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of installations and site configurations
- Complete site sign-off documentation and handover reports
- Ensure all work complies with health & safety regulations, RAMS, permits and company standards
About You
We’re looking for someone who enjoys working in the field, thrives on solving technical problems, and takes pride in delivering high-quality work.
Essential Skills & Experience
- 3–5 years' experience in a field-based engineering role involving telemetry, networking, communications, instrumentation, or similar technologies.
- Strong IT skills with knowledge of field communication protocols and low-power field-based devices.
- Experience configuring networking equipment and low-power communications devices.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK, including regular overnight stays.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to customers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workload effectively.
- High attention to detail system configuration.
- Enthusiasm for emerging technologies, cloud-based systems, and modern communications solutions.
Desirable
- Experience working with electrical instrumentation, including flow, pressure, temperature, or energy measurement.
- Previous experience within water, utilities, industrial, or process engineering environments.
