About the role:
A specialist SEND school in Spilsby is seeking a committed SLD Specialist to join their team on a full-time basis from September.
The school provides a highly supportive and structured environment for pupils with complex learning needs, focusing on communication, life skills, independence, and emotional development alongside academic progress. Staff work collaboratively to create personalised learning experiences that enable every pupil to thrive in a safe, nurturing setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of highly personalised, differentiated learning activities tailored to pupils with SLD.
- Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and support teams to implement individual learning plans and communication strategies.
- Use a range of specialist approaches, such as visual communication systems, sensory-based learning, and structured routines, to enhance engagement and understanding.
- Provide consistent, calm support to help pupils develop communication, self-regulation, and independence skills.
- Assist with personal care where required, ensuring dignity and wellbeing are always prioritised.
- Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes confidence, participation, and emotional security.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience working with children or young people with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) or complex needs in educational, care, or specialist settings.
- Strong understanding of individualised learning approaches and the importance of adapting strategies to meet a wide range of needs.
- Confidence using alternative communication methods (such as PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables) is highly desirable.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
- Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Health & Social Care, or equivalent experience are advantageous.
