About the role:
A supportive school in Spilsby is seeking a dedicated SEMH Behaviour Mentor to work with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support. The setting focuses on creating a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment where students can develop their emotional regulation, resilience, and engagement with learning. This is a full-time role starting in September, with a view to becoming permanent for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Implement behaviour support strategies to help pupils manage emotions, regulate behaviour, and remain engaged in learning.
- Work closely with teaching staff to adapt activities and remove barriers to learning.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence, resilience, and positive behaviour.
- Respond to challenging behaviours in a calm, patient, and consistent manner, using de-escalation techniques where necessary.
- Support pupils throughout the school day, including transitions, breaktimes, and structured learning activities.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, or in pastoral/support roles.
- Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and approaches to supporting emotional regulation.
- Ability to remain calm, resilient, and consistent in challenging situations.
- Relevant training or qualifications such as Team Teach, Youth Work, Childcare, Psychology, or equivalent experience.
