About the role:
justteachers are currently seeking a committed and empathetic Autism Support Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Oakham. This full-time role is available for an immediate start and offers a fantastic opportunity to work closely with pupils on the autism spectrum within a structured and supportive environment. You will play a vital role in helping pupils access their education, develop communication and social skills, and build independence. This position is ideal for someone passionate about autism support and looking to make a meaningful difference in a specialist setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism
- Assist in delivering structured and engaging learning activities tailored to individual needs
- Support pupils with communication, social interaction, and sensory regulation
- Implement behaviour support strategies and follow individual education plans (IEPs)
- Help create a calm, predictable, and structured learning environment
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and specialists to support pupil progress
- Encourage independence and confidence in daily activities
- Monitor and report on pupil development and wellbeing
Pre-requisites:
- Experience working with children or young people with autism (highly desirable)
- A patient, understanding, and nurturing approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations
- A proactive and flexible attitude to supporting diverse needs
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEN support are advantageous
