About the role:
Justteachers is seeking a full-time Autism Support Assistant to join a specialist provision in the Oakham area starting in September 2026 on a long-term, temporary basis.
The setting supports pupils with Autism and associated social, emotional and communication needs. The school provides a structured, consistent environment tailored to support routine, regulation and engagement, with learning programmes aligned to individual EHCP outcomes.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to provide consistent, personalised support, helping pupils to develop communication skills, independence and confidence within a specialist setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with autism
- Support the delivery of structured and adapted learning activities
- Use visual timetables and communication strategies to aid understanding
- Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
- Build strong, consistent relationships to support pupil engagement
- Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to meet individual needs
- Support during transitions and unstructured times of the school day
- Monitor and record pupil progress and behaviour
Pre-requisites:
- Experience working with children or young people with autism (school, care or similar setting desirable)
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- Understanding of autism-friendly strategies (e.g. structure, routine, visual support)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to adapt to individual pupil needs
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Right to work in the UK
