About the role:
We are working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive Primary School in Norwich who are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their Specialist Resource Base (SRB) on a full-time, long-term basis from September.
This rewarding opportunity is ideal for an individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil within the SRB, working closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to ensure the child can access learning, develop confidence, and thrive within the school environment.
The school is committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive setting where every child is valued and supported. This role would suit someone with experience working with children with SEND or an individual looking to further develop a career in special educational needs and education support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil within the Specialist Resource Base
- Support the pupil’s academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development
- Adapt learning activities to meet the individual needs of the pupil
- Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and specialist staff to implement support strategies
- Assist the pupil in accessing the curriculum and participating fully in school life
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive engagement with learning
- Support communication and interaction skills where required
- Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
- Build strong and positive relationships with the pupil, staff, and parents/carers
- Follow and contribute to individual education plans and support programmes
Pre-requisites:
- Previous experience working with children, ideally within a school or educational setting
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND, including autism, communication needs, or social and emotional needs, is highly desirable
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to build trusting relationships with children and support their individual needs
- A proactive and flexible attitude to supporting learning and development
- The ability to work effectively as part of a wider support team
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Two recent education-based references
