About the role:
A welcoming and supportive SEND setting in Ely, dedicated to meeting the needs of children and young people across all age ranges. The school provides a structured and nurturing environment where pupils are supported to develop their emotional regulation, resilience, independence, and confidence alongside their learning. Staff work collaboratively to create a positive, inclusive atmosphere that encourages engagement and personal growth. Full-time role available, starting ASAP and/ or September.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted behavioural and emotional support to pupils, helping them to understand and manage their behaviours effectively.
- Work closely with teaching staff to create a calm, structured learning environment that supports positive behaviour and engagement.
- Use consistent, supportive strategies such as clear expectations, de-escalation techniques, and restorative approaches to guide pupils back into learning.
- Act as a positive role model, building strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage confidence and self-esteem.
- Support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them develop coping strategies and positive interactions.
- Reinforce routines and boundaries to promote a safe and purposeful school environment.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience working with children or young people in a behavioural support, education, care, youth work, or mentoring setting.
- Understanding of SEND and/or SEMH needs, with the ability to adapt approaches to support individual pupils.
- Confidence in managing challenging behaviour using calm, consistent, and proactive strategies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Relevant training or qualifications (e.g., Youth Work, Childcare, Teaching Assistant Level 2/3) or equivalent practical experience.
