About the role:
We are working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive Primary School in Downham Market who are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September.
This rewarding opportunity is ideal for an individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them achieve success both academically and socially. The successful candidate will work within the school’s Inclusion Room, providing targeted support to three Key Stage 1 pupils alongside an experienced Teaching Assistant. You will play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, develop positive relationships, and build confidence within a nurturing environment.
The school is committed to creating an inclusive setting where every child is supported to reach their full potential. This role would suit someone with experience working with children with SEND or an individual looking to further develop their career within education and special educational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted support to three Key Stage 1 pupils within the Inclusion Room
- Work collaboratively alongside another Teaching Assistant to deliver effective support strategies
- Support pupils’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development
- Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs
- Assist pupils in accessing learning and engaging positively in planned activities
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
- Support communication, interaction, and emotional regulation where required
- Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to ensure consistent provision
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
- Help maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
- Build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents/carers
- Follow and contribute to individual support plans, interventions, and EHCP targets where applicable
Pre-requisites:
- Previous experience working with children, ideally within a school or educational setting
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND, including autism, ADHD, communication needs, or social and emotional needs, is highly desirable
- A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young children
- A proactive and flexible attitude towards supporting learning and development
- The ability to work effectively as part of a wider support team
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Two recent education-based references
