About the role
Justteachers is seeking a dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school in the Bradford area on a long-term basis.
This full-time position is due to start in September, with shortlisting currently underway. The school is committed to creating a structured, inclusive and nurturing environment where pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) can develop academically, socially and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils with autism to access learning and participate in daily classroom routines
- Implementing personalised strategies, visual supports and communication systems (e.g. PECS, Makaton)
- Promoting social interaction, independence and emotional regulation
- Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to provide a consistent support approach
Pre-requisites
- Relevant qualifications in education, SEN, childcare, youth work or support work
- Proven experience supporting children or young people with autism
- Strong understanding of autism, sensory needs and structured approaches such as TEACCH
- Experience using behaviour management, de-escalation and communication strategies
- Two education or school-based references
