About the role:
Justteachers is seeking a resilient and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to work full time within a specialist SEMH school in Birmingham from September 2026. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs and helping them succeed both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide classroom and one-to-one support for students with SEMH needs.
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning programmes.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Support behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- Encourage engagement in lessons and school activities.
- Help students develop emotional regulation, social skills, and self-confidence.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour.
Pre-requisites:
- Minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- A proactive and positive attitude towards supporting vulnerable learners.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
