Locum Band 6 Occupational Therapist - Orthopaedics/Oncology, Middlesex

JustOT is currently recruiting for an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join a busy hospital team in Middlesex, working across Orthopaedic and Oncology wards. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and proactive OT who thrives in a fast-paced acute setting and is passionate about delivering high-quality patient-centred care.

The Role

As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist, you will manage a varied caseload across orthopaedic and oncology services, supporting patients with complex discharge needs and facilitating safe transitions from hospital to home or alternative care settings.

You will work closely with patients, families, carers, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective rehabilitation, discharge planning, and equipment provision.

Essential Requirements

  • HCPC registered Occupational Therapist
  • Previous NHS experience at Band 6 level or equivalent
  • Strong experience in discharge planning within an acute hospital environment
  • Experience assessing and providing appropriate equipment and adaptations
  • Competency in simple wheelchair prescriptions
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of manual handling
  • Confidence in managing and leading difficult conversations with: Patients, Relatives and carers and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise a varied caseload effectively
  • Experience working in a fast-paced hospital setting
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' functional abilities and rehabilitation needs
  • Develop and implement treatment and discharge plans
  • Coordinate complex discharge arrangements with internal and external services
  • Recommend and provide appropriate equipment to maximise patient independence and safety
  • Complete simple wheelchair assessments and prescriptions
  • Deliver manual handling assessments and advice
  • Liaise effectively with medical, nursing, therapy, and social care teams
  • Manage challenging situations and support patients and families through difficult conversations
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
