Our client is a family run business that was founded in the 1980's with just one residential care home. Over the past three decades they have rapidly expanded their family of care homes and now have facilities in some of the most beautiful, relaxing surroundings in England. The company offers services such as a Brain Injury Unit, Mental Health Care, Respite Care, Residential Care and much more.

Occupational Therapist Band 5 Permanent

Location: Norwich / Norfolk

Salary: £31,049 - £37,796

Hours: Part Time - 3 days a week

The company is a purpose-built care home situated in Norfolk that provides en-suite accommodation for 18 residents with neurological conditions. The home is designed for individuals with a physical disability or neurological condition. Our client will feature the following facilities: 18 En-suite Bedrooms, Gymnasium, Hydrotherapy Bath, Private Residents Gardens, Rehabilitation Kitchen and an Internal Courtyard Therapy Room.

Job Purpose

As an autonomous practitioner, the post holder provides a flexible and comprehensive Occupational Therapy service to specific clinical areas.

  • To carry out day to day supervision of unqualified staff.
  • To participate in audit, research and other development activities.
  • To promote Occupational Therapy to clients, their carers and the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To liaise and work closely with other agencies and service providers.

Specific Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for assessing and treating their own designated caseload of clients and maintaining their own records as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To arrange receipt of support and supervision from a designated senior Occupational Therapist.
  • The post holder will be involved in Clinical Governance and Continuous Professional Development.
  • To maintain a high standard of professional practice, working within the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct of the College of Occupational Therapists.
  • To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of your own work including accountability for the management of clients in your care as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To be aware of evidence as a base for practice, participate in service/multidisciplinary audit and research within the clinical area and use knowledge gained to achieve optimum outcomes for Occupational Therapy.
  • To prioritise own caseload.
  • To, where possible, in conjunction with client, plan appropriate treatment interventions and prioritise identified needs.
  • To independently carry out assessment and appropriate intervention for clients incorporating personal, psychological and spiritual needs in relation to self-care, leisure and productivity.
  • With support from the multi-disciplinary team, contribute to differential diagnosis of complex clients through cognitive and functional assessments and determine treatment intervention based on this.
  • Implement treatment plan using a range of 1:1 and group interventions and evaluate treatment provided.
  • To assess risks relating to the discharge process to ensure a safe and timely discharge of clients to the most appropriate setting.
  • To be aware of challenging situations including verbal and physical conflicts and managing these and seeking support when required.
  • To overcome barriers and communicate sensitive information effectively with clients and carers/family. This requires the use of appropriate specialist communication skills of negotiation, motivation, explanation and the gaining of informed/implied consent.
  • To communicate with multi-disciplinary/outside agencies and arrange appropriate follow up to provide a flexible seamless service.
  • To provide advice and information to clients/carers including instruction regarding use of equipment.
  • To communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines e.g. participate in case conference.
  • To liaise with the multidisciplinary team, plan, and undertake pro and post discharge home visits, where indicated, and arrange for the implementation of recommendations arising from assessment.

Experience

  • Must be a registered HCPC.
  • Previous experience as a Neurological OT.
  • Previous experience working in a care home.
