A fantastic opportunity is available for Senior Occupational Therapists at Band 6 and Band 7 level in Surrey. The service provides high-quality, consultant-led, patient-focused adult and paediatric rehabilitation for individuals with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.

Job Role

  • Undertake specialist occupational therapy assessments as part of both uni-professional and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans for patients referred to the service.
  • Patients will present with a variety of complex conditions, including neurological and musculoskeletal disorders, age-related conditions, learning disabilities and mental health diagnoses.
  • Obtain valid informed consent for assessment, treatment interventions and information sharing in accordance with legal and professional guidelines.
  • Carry out specialist assessments and reassessments using evidence-based outcome measures and in line with RCOT, SSOAP, BSRM, NICE and RCP guidelines.
  • Use advanced clinical reasoning and patient-centred goal setting to develop and deliver individualised occupational therapy treatment programmes.
  • Demonstrate compassion, empathy and sensitivity towards patients with complex emotional and physical needs.
  • Follow local risk assessment procedures when working with individuals who present with challenging behaviours.
  • Manage and prioritise an individual caseload, communicating with the supervisor where service demands cannot be met.
  • Prescribe appropriate equipment to maximise patient independence.
  • Travel to patients' homes with the necessary assessment, treatment and personal protective equipment.
  • Work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team, including physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, podiatrists, pharmacists, case managers, consultants and psychologists to deliver seamless care.
  • Work independently during home visits in accordance with the lone working policy.
  • Identify individuals requiring support from external agencies using sound clinical reasoning.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the service, including responding to referrals and queries, contributing to team discussions, supervising rehabilitation assistants and administrative staff where appropriate.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and chair meetings when required.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and effectively manage a flexible workload.
  • Contribute to social media content and update occupational therapy education presentations for healthcare professionals, patients and carers.
  • Support service development initiatives and actively participate in training programmes.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of an up-to-date CPD portfolio with skills in assessing and treating adults with complex neurological conditions and multiple pathologies.
  • Rehabilitation healthcare experience desirable.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience at junior level across a range of clinical areas, including neurology, general rehabilitation, falls and elderly medicine.
  • Knowledge of complex medical conditions including neurology, multiple pathologies and falls.
  • Understanding of outcome measures and evidence-based practice for people with physical disabilities.
  • Knowledge of National Service Frameworks and clinical guidelines relevant to neurological rehabilitation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, prioritisation and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage and resolve conflict.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Ability to apply core occupational therapy skills across a range of clinical conditions using a patient-centred, goal-setting approach.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and report-writing skills.
