Purpose of the role
Support the Head of Investment Valuations in overseeing the independent valuation framework across the investment portfolio, ensuring valuations are robust, well governed, and appropriate for financial reporting, risk management, and regulatory requirements. Provide technical expertise on complex valuation matters, drive continuous improvement of valuation processes and controls, and act as a trusted partner to Investment, Finance, Risk, and senior governance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead independent valuation reviews and price verification across the investment portfolio, ensuring accurate and timely valuation outcomes.
- Oversee valuation activity across a broad range of asset classes, including fixed income, derivatives, private credit, structured products, LPI assets, real estate, and other Level 3 investments.
- Assess and challenge valuation methodologies, assumptions, models, and market data to ensure fair value principles are consistently applied.
- Develop and maintain valuation approaches for new and existing asset classes, with particular focus on complex and illiquid investments.
- Monitor valuation controls and investigate valuation exceptions, breaches, and discrepancies, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Drive improvements to valuation models, processes, data quality, and analytical tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Produce valuation reporting, management information, and committee papers to support decision-making and governance requirements.
- Support the development and maintenance of liquidity models used to assess the Company's ability to meet cash flow obligations under normal and stressed market conditions.
- Deliver liquidity stress testing and scenario analysis, identifying potential vulnerabilities and informing liquidity risk management.
- Contribute to regulatory, audit, and financial reporting activities by providing valuation and liquidity-related analysis, insight, and documentation.
What We're Looking For
- Significant experience in investment valuation, investment risk, market risk, investment finance, or asset management within a life insurer, asset manager, pension fund, investment bank, or consultancy.
- Demonstrated expertise in valuing and providing oversight across a diverse range of asset classes, including fixed income, private credit, derivatives, structured finance, real estate, and other illiquid or Level 3 investments.
- Deep technical knowledge of private credit (preferred) and/or derivatives is essential.
- Sound understanding of derivative instruments, including repos, cross-currency swaps, interest rate swaps, total return swaps (TRS), and FX forwards, together with knowledge of illiquid and structured credit assets.
- Extensive knowledge of valuation methodologies, fair value principles, and relevant regulatory and accounting frameworks, including IFRS and Solvency II.
- Experience of independent price verification (IPV), valuation governance, control frameworks, and the review and challenge of valuation models, assumptions, and market data.
- Highly developed analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to assess complex investment structures, valuation uncertainty, model risk, and liquidity risk.
- Effective stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence, challenge, and present complex information clearly to senior leaders, committees, auditors, and external partners.
- Track record of delivering process improvements and enhancing valuation systems, controls, reporting, automation, and data quality.
- Degree in a STEM-related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable numerical capability. Advanced Excel skills are essential, while experience with Python or VBA would be advantageous.
