SEND Teaching Assistant - Wakefield

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school team from September. This is a full-time, long-term supply position based in Wakefield, working with three pupils on a 1:1 basis at different points throughout the school day. The children have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and require consistent support to help them access learning and regulate their emotions. Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support for three pupils with SEMH needs throughout the school day.
• Implement strategies to support emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote wellbeing and learning.
• Work closely with teaching staff, SEND professionals and other support staff to meet individual needs.
• Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours and support pupils in line with school policies and procedures.

Pre-Requisites

• Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
• Proven experience of supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
• Strong knowledge of behaviour management strategies and SEMH support approaches.
• Two education or school-based references.
• Experience working within a primary or secondary school setting.
• Team Teach training would be highly desirable.
• Ability to remain calm, patient and resilient when managing challenging behaviours, including defiance, verbal outbursts and occasional physical behaviours.
