A supportive and forward-thinking further-education setting in Wakefield is seeking a dedicated SEND Secondary Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a student from September 2026. This is a full-time position offering the chance to make a meaningful difference in a young person’s educational journey. Responsibilities

  • Offering 1:1 support to a student with identified SEND needs
  • Assisting with learning tasks, organisation and engagement
  • Supporting emotional regulation and promoting positive behaviour
  • Liaising with teaching staff, SENCO and external professionals
  • Helping adapt resources to meet individual learning requirements
  • Encouraging independence and confidence in both academic and social settings

Pre-requisites

  • Experience supporting young people with SEND in a school or FE environment
  • Strong communication, empathy and resilience
  • Ability to build trust and maintain professional boundaries
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
  • A positive, student-centred approach and willingness to learn
