About the role:

A specialist SEND setting in Lincoln supporting pupils with autism, with a strong focus on communication development through intensive interaction. The school follows both pre-formal and informal learning pathways, prioritising engagement, sensory exploration, and personalised communication approaches. This is a full-time role, available to start now or in September.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with autism in developing communication skills through intensive interaction, focusing on building trust, engagement, and shared attention.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to deliver personalised learning activities aligned with pre-formal and informal pathways.
  • Use structured, supportive strategies—including visual supports, sensory approaches, and consistent routines to enable pupils to access learning and feel secure.
  • Encourage engagement and participation by responding to pupils’ individual communication styles and celebrating small steps of progress.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through calm, consistent support and an understanding of each pupil’s needs.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with autism, particularly in educational, care, or support settings.
  • Understanding of intensive interaction and/or a willingness to develop skills in this area.
  • Awareness of pre-formal and informal learning approaches, with the ability to adapt support to suit individual developmental stages.
  • Confidence using a range of communication and engagement strategies to support pupils with complex needs.
  • Relevant training or qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or equivalent experience.
