A welcoming and inclusive SEND school in Spalding is seeking a dedicated Communication Classroom Assistant to join their team on a full‑time basis from May half term. The school supports primary‑aged pupils with a range of communication needs, including speech, language, and interaction difficulties, within a calm, structured, and nurturing environment.

The focus of the role is to support pupils in developing communication skills, confidence, and independence, working closely with teaching staff and specialists to ensure every child can access learning successfully.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the delivery of differentiated and communication‑focused lessons, working alongside the class teacher to adapt learning activities.
  • Provide targeted one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Use a range of supportive strategies, including visual timetables, symbols, modelling, repetition, and hands‑on activities, to aid understanding and engagement.
  • Reinforce key communication and learning concepts to help pupils confidently access the curriculum.
  • Encourage positive learning behaviours through calm, consistent support, helping pupils regulate emotions and re‑engage when required.
  • Support the development of social interaction, turn‑taking, and expressive and receptive language skills throughout the school day.
Pre‑requisites:
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or communication needs in schools, childcare, care, tutoring, or similar settings.
  • An understanding of how communication difficulties can impact learning and behaviour, and how to adapt support accordingly.
  • Confidence using a variety of inclusive strategies, including clear instructions, modelling, and visual support systems.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience such as Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Speech & Language support, Youth Work, or equivalent practical experience.
