A welcoming primary school in Spalding is seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEND Support Assistant to work closely with a KS2 pupil with ASC and SLD. The role involves supporting communication, regulating emotions, and helping the student access learning in a calm, structured environment. This is a full‑time role starting after Easter and continuing long‑term.
Key Responsibilities:
- Use a range of communication strategies (visuals, gestures, symbols/PECS where appropriate) to help the pupil understand instructions, express needs, and build confidence in interacting with others.
- Adapt activities into small, manageable steps, using modelling, repetition and visual scaffolding to ensure the pupil can access curriculum content at their level.
- Provide consistent reassurance, help the student recognise and manage emotions, and use calming strategies when they become overwhelmed.
- Encourage participation in lessons, celebrate small successes, and gradually develop the pupil’s independence through structured routines.
Pre‑requisites:
- Experience working with children with ASC, SLD or complex communication needs in a school or care/therapy setting.
- Communication Strategy Knowledge - a familiarity with visual supports, basic PECS principles, now/next boards, or other communication aids (training can be provided).
- Patience, Consistency and Nurturing Approach with a calm, predictable manner with the ability to build trust and work at the child’s pace.
- Relevant Qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEND support training, or experience within health and social care or youth support roles.
