About the role
A supportive and inclusive SEND setting is seeking a part-time Learning Support Assistant to work with pupils with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Needs, including those with mental health needs and autism.
This provision in Lincoln focuses on creating a structured, engaging, and nurturing environment where pupils can build confidence, regulate emotions, and re‑engage with learning.
There is a strong emphasis on practical and core subjects such as sport, science, maths, and English, helping pupils develop both academically and personally through tailored support and positive relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of adapted lessons across sport, science, maths, and English by working alongside teaching staff to break down tasks, scaffold learning, and provide targeted support.
- Help pupils manage behavioural, social, and emotional challenges, enabling them to access learning in a safe and structured environment.
- Use consistent and supportive strategies – including de‑escalation techniques, clear routines, visual supports, and positive reinforcement – to maintain engagement and promote self‑regulation.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, encouraging participation, resilience, and re‑engagement in lessons, particularly during moments of dysregulation.
Pre‑requisites
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, autism, or mental health challenges in schools, alternative provisions, or similar settings.
- Understanding of how to support pupils with a range of additional needs, particularly in managing behaviour and promoting emotional wellbeing.
- Confidence supporting learning across practical and academic subjects, with the ability to adapt approaches to keep pupils engaged.
- Relevant training or qualifications such as Team Teach, Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work, or equivalent experience.
